Under sink reverse osmosis drinking water system with storage tank and filter housings

Water Treatment

Utah water runs 8 to 29 grains. That is hard enough to scale a heater and chew a faucet.

A real salt-based softener protects the pipes, the heater, and the appliances. Then we polish what you drink. Diagnose first, quote in plain numbers, and book the visit on a 3-hour window. Call 385-449-0144.

Every Water Treatment Service We Offer

That white scale on your fixtures is calcium and magnesium, and it is the same stuff caking the bottom of your water heater and shortening the life of every appliance you own. A real, salt-based softener fixes it. Here is the honest version: if somebody sells you a “saltless softener,” that is snake oil. It might condition the water, which is fine, but it does not soften it. No salt, no soft water. We install and service softeners, reverse osmosis systems, and whole-home filtration, and we size them to your home instead of upselling you. Call 385-449-0144 or book online.

We cover Salt Lake, Davis, Utah, Weber, Summit, Tooele, Wasatch, Cache, and Box Elder counties from our shops in Sandy, Bountiful, and Orem. Every job is measured against our A STEPP standards, backed by a 3-hour appointment window and a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Water Quality Testing

We test before we recommend anything: hardness, iron, chlorine, pH, and what your city is actually delivering to your street. Hardness swings by city and by season here.

Water Softener Installation

A softener uses salt to swap the calcium and magnesium out of your water, which protects the pipes, the water heater, and every appliance downstream. No salt, no soft water.

Do I need water treatment if I already have a filter at the sink?

A sink filter cleans what you drink. It does nothing for the scale building inside your water heater, your dishwasher, and your fixtures. Those need the water treated where it enters the house.

How do I know what kind of treatment I need?

We test first. Hardness, iron, chlorine, pH, and what the city is actually delivering to your street. Then we size equipment to that, not to a package.

Is a salt-free system as good as a traditional softener?

No. A salt-free conditioner can keep some scale from sticking, but it leaves the calcium and magnesium in the water, so your water is still hard. No salt, no soft water. If you want soft water in Utah, it takes a salt-based softener, and that is the same answer you will get from us at your kitchen sink.

Can I finance a water treatment system?

Yes, for qualified homeowners. We will give you the number before any equipment is ordered.

Why does my water still taste off after installing a filter?

Most cartridges only treat part of the picture. We match the media to what the test actually found instead of guessing at a preset.

How hard is the water where I live?

It swings by city and by season. Herriman runs around 40 grains off the wells in summer and closer to 20 in winter. Draper is roughly a third of Herriman in summer. Bountiful is acidic, and Ogden behaves differently from the rest of the state. That is why we test instead of asking your neighbor.

Do I need both a softener and an RO?

A lot of Utah homes want both. The softener treats the whole house and protects your plumbing and appliances. The RO sits under the kitchen sink for drinking water. A softener protects your home, an RO protects your family.

What areas do you serve?

We cover Salt Lake, Davis, Utah, Weber, Summit, Tooele, Wasatch, Cache, and Box Elder counties from our shops in Sandy, Bountiful, and Orem, with a 3-hour appointment window.

My wife and I just moved to Utah. We had a few things we wanted to upgrade and I needed a plumber. After looking over reviews and comparing a few quotes, I decided to use Rare Breed Plumbing. I am very glad I did. Chandler Horne did a great job of taking care of our bathroom faucet but he also checked on a few things for me since this was a new home and found an issue of high water pressure. (FYI- I have an Engineering Degree so I understand high water pressure, this was not just to sell more business.). I am very happy he found this as this could have been an issue in many other areas later on. Chandler also treated this repair as if it was he own home. This is the kind of person you want for any repair in your house. Thanks Chandler and because of you, I committed to Rare Breed for all our Plumbing, Heating and Air conditioner issues etc for the future. Thanks Chandler Horne!!

Chandler did a great job installing a gas line to our fire table – even correcting an installation issue from a previous owner. Highly recommend.

Nathan and Thomas were FANTASTIC! I love some good comedy with my service. I absolutely felt they were clear, clean, and transparent about the needed repairs and expectations. I researched several places and have no regerts 😜

Colson is amazing! He’s upfront, transparent, and so personable. He came in to give an estimate for a gnarly toilet repair, and his professionally and straightforwardness only adds to the company’s and his credibility. Highly recommend!!

I randomly called Rare Breed Plumbing and I would definitely recommend them to others. Kyler showed up on time and was very thorough at explaining all my options. I had a drain issue and after talking to Kyler I decided to go with flushing the drain out with a water jet. My drains are all working perfectly now. Kyler also pointed out some other potential issues that could occur later and suggested some ways that I could easily correct them myself. He also cleaned up very well afterwards. Kyler was very professional and knowledgeable
