Treat the well you actually have, not a catalog package
Testing first, then softening, iron, odor, and sediment to match the water.
Well water is whatever the ground is giving you: hardness, iron, sulfur smell, sediment, or bacteria. Staining and a rotten-egg odor are clues. A test is the answer. We build treatment from those numbers instead of hanging a one-size system on the well house, and we book the visit on a 3-hour appointment window.
No test, no system
City water varies by street. Well water varies by well. Guessing is how people buy a softener when they needed iron removal, or an iron filter when the real problem is bacteria. We test first.

What well water usually throws at Utah homes
Hardness, iron, manganese, sulfur odor, sediment, and sometimes bacteria. Not every well has all of them. The stains and the smell tell you where to look. The lab sheet tells you what to buy.

Softening versus filtration versus disinfection
A salt-based softener removes hardness. Iron media or oxidation handles rust. Carbon or aeration can help odor. Disinfection is its own decision when bacteria is present. Stacking every tank ‘just in case’ is how well houses turn into a maze.

Why we will not skip the test
Iron in the ferrous form and iron already rusted do not treat the same. A softener that is asked to eat heavy iron will foul. We would rather know the number than replace a tank in a year.

Pressure, pumps, and the well house
Treatment only works if the well can feed it. A weak pump, a starved pressure tank, or a frozen shed will look like a filter problem. We look at delivery as well as chemistry.

City water this is not
If you are on a municipal line, start with our water treatment page and the softener page. This page is for wells and the mixed problems they bring.

Maintenance that keeps it working
Well treatment is not set-and-forget. Media beds, regenerant, and cartridges wear out on a schedule the water sets. We lay out that schedule when we size the system so the stains and the smell do not quietly come back.
The well is the source. The test is the map.
We will not design a well system from a neighbor’s story. Herriman wells and a bench well in Davis County are not the same water. Bring a recent test if you have one. We can also test.

Water Quality Testing
Hardness, iron, chlorine, pH, and what is actually coming out of the tap, in plain language.

Water Softener Installation
When the test says hardness is the job. Salt-based ion exchange, sized to the house.

Whole-Home Water Filtration
Sediment and taste treatment at the point water enters the house, sized to flow.

Reverse Osmosis Systems
Drinking water at the kitchen sink after the well is treated at the house.

Water Pressure
When the well or the house pressure is the reason the treatment never sees a steady flow.

Do you treat bacteria?
When a test shows it, disinfection is part of the conversation. We will not pretend a softener kills bacteria.
Can I use a salt-free conditioner on a well?
Not if you want soft water. No salt, no soft water. A conditioner does not remove hardness or iron. See the salt-free page for the honest version.
How often do wells need retesting?
After any treatment change, and when the water’s behavior changes: new stains, new smell, new sediment. Wells are not a set-and-forget source.
Do you work on the well pump itself?
Pump work is a different trade than hanging treatment. We will say if the next call belongs with a well driller.
