A Sewer Camera Is Not a Leak Locator

Homeowners hear “camera” and assume we can find any water under the house. That is not what a sewer camera does.

A sewer camera rides inside a drain or sewer line. It shows offsets, roots, scale, collapses, and bellies in that pipe. It does not see pressurized supply leaks in the slab, a pin hole in a copper water line, or a soft spot under the carpet that came from a supply line.

What a sewer camera is good at

Backups, slow drains that keep returning, locating the break before a dig, and deciding whether lining or excavation fits. If the problem lives in the drain side of the house, the camera is the right tool.

What it will not do

It will not locate a hot-water leak under the slab. It will not replace an acoustic leak survey or a moisture meter walk. It will not “see through” soil to a water main. If your water bill spiked and the drains still flush fine, you probably need leak work, not a sewer scope.

Why we say this out loud

We would rather lose a camera sale than sell you the wrong diagnostic. When the symptoms point to a supply leak, we say so. When they point to the sewer, we scope it. Mixing those up wastes your day and your money.
