Use the night air Utah already gives you
Whole-house fans that dump afternoon heat and pull in a cool evening.
Wasatch Front days run hot and nights often drop hard. A whole-house fan pulls that cooler air in through open windows and pushes the day’s heat out through the attic. It will not replace the AC at 4 p.m. It can cut hours of cooling after sundown. We size it to the house and quote on a 3-hour appointment window.
A whole-house fan is a night tool, not an AC
If someone sold this as a replacement for central air in July, they oversold it. Used on the shoulder of the day, with windows you can actually open, it is a simple, loud-in-a-good-way way to flush the house.

How it cools the house
You open selected windows. The fan in the ceiling pulls that air through the living space and dumps it into the attic and out the vents. The house flushes. Then you shut it down and close up before the next heat arrives.

When Utah weather makes this work
Dry evenings and a real temperature drop are the point. A still, 85-degree night with wildfire smoke is not a whole-house-fan night. We will say that instead of promising year-round savings.

Noise, covers, and winter
These fans are not silent. A good insulated cover keeps the hole from becoming a winter leak. We treat the winter close-up as part of the install, not an afterthought.

Attic venting has to keep up
The air has to leave the attic as fast as the fan puts it there. Ridge, gable, or roof vents that are undersized will pressurize the attic and shove heat and dust back at you.

Security and open windows
This only works if you are willing to open windows on a schedule. If that is not how the house lives, a mini-split or better duct balance is the better conversation.

What we will not claim
We will not call this afternoon comfort on a 100-degree day, and we will not tell you to skip AC maintenance because you bought a fan.
Size the fan to the house, and the attic to the fan
A fan that is too small does nothing. A fan that is huge on a tight attic pulls the doors shut. We look at attic venting and the rooms you will open before we pick a CFM.

What to Do If Your AC Stops Working on a Hot Day
The afternoon the fan cannot cover and the condenser needs a real diagnosis.
Will this replace my air conditioner?
No. It is a night flush. Keep the AC for the heat of the day.
Is it loud?
Yes, compared to a ducted system. People who like them treat the sound as the house breathing. People who hate it should not buy one.
Do I need new attic vents too?
Often. The fan is only half the path. We look at existing vent area before we cut the ceiling.
Can you add one to a tight newer house?
Sometimes, if we can get enough attic exhaust and you will actually open windows. Tight houses also have a ventilation conversation that may point to an ERV instead.
